Some of my favorite clients over the years have been my Breast Cancer Survivors. They inspire me like no other. I am drawn to these women. My own mom fought through two bouts of Breast Cancer and I learned from her that taking "Joy in the Journey" makes a huge difference. My mother chose to fight cancer with exercise and optimism in addition to her medical treatments. She was a pioneer of sorts in the area of fitness and wellness for women, leading exercise class and jazz dance classes for women as far back as her days at Penn State University in the early 1950's. She instilled in me the enthusiasm and awareness of the effects that exercise have on a person - both physically and emotionally. From her, I learned to always look forward, keep moving, keep progressing... I believe that women can feel better from the slightest of movement and exercise. I see this with my cancer survivor clients. Some days, they do well to just get to my studio... other days, they can conquer the world. I ask them come on all days and we'll make it work. I start working with these amazing women early in their journeys, sometimes throughout chemo and radiation and sometimes afterwards. I am truly inspired by them. Truly.
Please contact me for more information regarding movement and training schedules. It is my goal and my honor to help you get back to your pre-cancer wellness status. Together, we can accomplish much! - Emily

DEDE VAN ZANDT (Breast Cancer Survivor and Personal Training Client): "I had the best trainer in the world, Emily Wannenburg. I was incredibly weak from having breast cancer, a double mastectomy and months of chemo. It kicked my butt. I couldn't do anything. For years I said I would love someone to help me get better, feel more normal, get stronger. Although I had known Emily through our children, I didn't know she was a personal trainer. I knew I had found the best personal trainer when we first started working together. Emily was loving, encouraging, funny and gentle. I couldn't even go from a sitting position to a standing position without using my arms....we worked on that until I became a pro...same thing with planks. I slowly became stronger and stronger. AND, I enjoyed working out because Emily was so great. I miss her like crazy, since she moved away. I'm signed up to work with another personal trainer, but I don't have high expectations that anyone can fill Emily's shoes. She's simply the best!"
CHIQUITA (Breast Cancer Survivor and Personal Training Client) I am a breast cancer survivor. After my diagnosis and treatment I was left with diminished energy and a weakened body. I noticed a loss of upper body strength, shortness of breath while climbing stairs, and the lack of stamina when doing daily chores. Then, one morning, I was stepping on a kitchen stool to reach a top cabinet shelf when my legs buckled and I crashed to the floor. I wasn't hurt but that fall got my attention. I could continue with my "comfortable" lifestyle and accept these physical limitations brought on by my treatments and the aging process OR I could regain control of my physical well-being.
My husband encouraged me to work with a personal trainer. I began working with Emily Wannenburg. Almost immediately I could see a difference. Being consistent with 2/3 sessions per week, plus having my gym time supervised by a personal trainer has made a huge difference in my strength, mobility, balance and coordination Amazing News!! My last Bone Density Test showed a reverse in bone loss. The Oncologist canceled all prescription medication and attributed the change, in part, to my regular exercise regiment. My teaming up with Emily Wannenburg has proven to be a very smart decision!
